Cropped from a wetter and cooler vintage, the 2011 Taita shows more evident tannins. The granite soils where the three hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon were planted in 2002 had been a glacier and are quite different from the rest of Marchige in Colchagua. The place allows for dry farming of the vines. Since 2010, the élevage of this special cuvee is two years in 80% new barriques followed by four years in bottle. 2011 was a cool, low yielding year that produced a wine in line with the 2010; but it still feels a little too young, and the tannins need a little more time in bottle to get polished. Drink now-2027.
Wine Tasting Notes
Montes Taita is a concentrated and complex wine, the production of which is extremely limited. It is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with the addition by Aurelio of other varieties according to the qualities of the year's vintage.
Intense ruby-red in color, it is endowed with generous blueberry, blackberry, mocca and truffle aromas.
In the mouth, the wine brings out delicious notes of cedar and bitter chocolate: most elegant yet powerful at the same time, with lovely soft, rounded tannins. Harmonious in structure, with an attractive, long and complex finish, Taita has the potential for long aging, and can be laid down and cellared for many years.
